How To Celebrate New Year's in Billings, MT
There’s two types of people on New Year’s Eve:
Those that are scouting out the BEST events so they can get dressed up in their sparkly dress and heels and enjoy the night popping champs 🍾
Those who are picking out their coziest jammies and will probably be in bed before the clock strikes midnight ⏰
Both types of people are my kinda people and I personally fall somewhere in between – no I probably won’t be staying up until 3am, but yes I’ll probably have a drink or two. Ya feel me?!
Whether you’re the type who wants to dress up and stay out until midnight or you’d rather be in pajamas before the ball drops, Billings has plenty of ways to ring in the New Year.
From cozy staycations to family-friendly activities and low-key local fun, here are some of the best ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in and around Billings.

Other Ways to Ring in the New Year in Billings, MT
Book a Staycation
If you love the idea of getting out of your house without actually leaving town, a staycation is the perfect way to make New Year’s feel special and Billings has some awesome local spots that would be perfect for ringing in the new year!
A few of my top recs would be:
➡️ The Northern Hotel – located right in downtown Billings, it’s ideal if you want to enjoy a nice dinner, grab a drink nearby, and walk back to your room at the end of the night without worrying about driving!
➡️ Red Lodge – if you’re open to a short drive, Red Lodge makes for a charming winter escape. You can book a cozy spot, enjoy dinner in town, and wake up on New Year’s Day surrounded by snow-covered mountains.
➡️ Sage Lodge – one of my personal favorites, Sage is perfect for couples looking to relax, unwind, and reset for the new year. Think fireplaces, scenic views, great food, and a peaceful start to January. Plus, they have their Trout “Ball” Drop on NYE as a playful nod to Paradise Valley’s fly-fishing heritage!
Plan a Local Date Night
While New Year’s Eve has a way of making you feel like you need a big event, sometimes a simple, intentional date night is more than enough.
If you want to keep things low key, but still feel like you’re celebrating, make a reservation at one of Billings top restaurants!
To make it feel extra special, you can treat it as a night to reflect on the year and talk about what’s ahead. Follow it up with dessert, a nightcap, or even just a quiet drive through town before heading home.
Host a Low-Key New Year’s Eve at Home
If going out isn’t your thing, staying in can be just as fun. Invite a few friends over, keep it casual, and make it something you actually enjoy.
Think themed appetizers, a signature cocktail or mocktail, board games, or a movie marathon leading up to midnight. You still get the celebration, just without the chaos!
Or if you really want to take it up a notch, you can hire a private chef or book a fun at-home hibachi experience so you don’t have to do the cooking.
This is also a great option if you have kids and want to celebrate together without being out late.
Plan a Brunch Date on New Year’s Day
If you’re the type that would rather skip the late night altogether, you can plan something to look forward to the next morning instead!
New Year’s Day brunch is a great option for couples, friends, or families who want to celebrate without staying up until midnight and Billings has some delishhhh brunch and breakfast spots for you to choose from.
